| Solid Waste Disposal
District residents may transport trash, including bulky items to the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station at 4900 Bates Road, NE.
In order to dispose of trash at Fort Totten, an individual must provide proof of District residency, such as a DC driver's permit and a valid vehicle registration. A third form of proof in the form of a utility bill or voter registration card may also be required. Materials Permitted for Disposal at the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station:
- Major household appliances
- Furniture and mattresses
- Bagged residential trash
- Refrigerators
- Washers and dryers
- Hot water heaters
- Leaves and yard waste
- LIMITED construction debris.
- Boxes and packing materials
- Tree limbs no longer than four feet and no larger than six inches in diameter
- Lumber up to four feet long and no larger than 6x6 in cross-sectional dimensions.
